I had the honour of working with this amazing team at Kosmosis Gin.


Product photography plays a crucial role in capturing the essence and quality of a product, especially in the competitive world of spirits like gin. For a local brand like Kosmosis, the visuals are not just about showcasing the product but also about creating an experience and a story that resonates with the target audience. As an advertising agency, our role in this process is pivotal. We are responsible for translating the brand’s vision and values into captivating visual content that speaks to consumers.

Creating a mood board is the first step in this process. It helps us establish the aesthetic direction for the brand’s website and sets the tone for the overall design. For Kosmosis Gin, we would focus on elements that reflect sophistication, quality, and a touch of local flair. The mood board serves as a visual reference point, ensuring that everyone involved in the project is aligned on the creative direction.

Once the mood board is approved, we can move on to the actual photography process. This involves selecting the right props, setting up the lighting, and arranging the product in an appealing way. Attention to detail is key, as every aspect of the image, from the composition to the colors, plays a role in conveying the brand’s identity. Through our photography, we aim to not only showcase the product itself but also to evoke a feeling or a lifestyle that the target audience aspires to.

Overall, our involvement in the commercial photography and mood board creation for Kosmosis is about more than just creating pretty pictures. It’s about telling a story, creating an emotional connection with consumers, and ultimately, helping the brand stand out in a competitive market.

Some Background of Kosmosis

Kosmosis Gin was founded in 2022 by two friends who share a lot of similar interests and tastes in things that include music, views on life and fine spirits to name a few. Otshepeng and Thapelo met in 2009 on their way from the same school and have seen their friendship grow from people who would hang out occasionally amongst other peers to family-like level. Over the years, we have always maintained our stance on entrepreneurship and independence, but it was the trust and mutual respect we had built over the years and believing in each other that made it easy for the business partnership to form.

The founding and name of Kosmosis (originally Kosmos) is an ode to our views and imagination of “the ideal world”; we decided to write the back label story ourselves and had an external party review of it: “Kosmosis is derived from Kosmos, a Greek word meaning order and harmony, extrapolating on the idea that the Cosmos is orderly and perfect, and the antithesis to chaos. It is this idea of order that guides the founding principles and the intended personality of the Kosmosis Gin concept as a small-batch, hand-crafted gin that is perfectly distilled and balanced in both taste and smell.”
